Route summary - Wooler, Turvelaws Farm, Doddington, Weetwood Bridge and Hall, St. Cuthbert's Way, Wooler.

We joined the footpath to the west of Wooler (994284) after crossing over the A697. The path continued on a raised bed which appeared to be the remains of a disused railway line or possibly an artificial levee to prevent Wooler Water flooding the adjacent fields.

When we reached the B6525 we turned right and after passing Turvelaws Farm on the left we made a left turn along a track. We then turned right over a style (990300) to join a footpath across fields.

We had a break just before the path crossed over a river (988316). Turning right after crossing the bridge we continued on the path until reaching Doddington. The name Doddington is associated with a fine hard cheese made locally.

Here we passed a sign warning of young cyclists. We had no idea how the locals knew several members of our cycling club were passing by!

We continued north-east out of the village along a minor road/track eventually turning right onto a footpath (016334). This area has many cup and ring marked stones. Their ancient purpose is unknown.

Eventually the path turned into a minor road passing Weetwood Hall, a 17th Century Manor House. Soon afterwards we crossed Weetwood Bridge which was under repair but we carefully crossed to avoid a long detour.

Crossing over the B6348 we joined a footpath heading south up a steep incline. Here we stopped for a short rest before turning right onto St. Cuthbert's Way.Eventually we reached a minor road which we followed into Wooler.
