Route Summary - Corbridge, The Scrogs. Ladycutters Lane, Temperley Grange, Hunter's Hill, Peel Flat, Slaley, Hillfield Farm, Lightwater Cottages, Snokoe Plantation, Ladycutters Lane, Corbridge.

Corbridge grew from the Roman town of Corstopitum, a supply town for the troops on Hadrian's Wall.

After leaving the car park we started walking due south along the B6529. Just after crossing the railway line a footpath can be seen on the right of the road. This path went through an area called the Scrogs, across a main road (A695) through a field then on to Ladycutters lane.

We continued on the footpath after crossing the lane through fields (with a friendly old horse) to reach another minor road, where we turned right following the road until turning right at a T junction. Soon afterwards, at Temperley Grange, we turned left onto a footpath.

Making our way through Dipton Wood

We had a coffee break just before reaching a minor road then turned left along the road near Dipton Cottage.

We turned left along the road until shortly before Dipton House we turned right onto a footpath. We continued walking on the footpath, passing Hunter's Hill and Todburn Steel then crossing the North Road , through to Peel Flat.

A field here contained horses one of which became particularly frisky when Dalton went through! We carried on into Slaley where we had refreshments (and chips) at the Rose and Crown.

A visit to the Rose and Crown Pub at Slaley for Lunch.

Passing through Slaley we picked up the footpath just after the post office (there are two paths here, we took the second one).

The path passed by Hillfield Farm, through Slaley Woods (where we had lunch), Holly Hill until reaching the North Road again. Here we turned left along the road then right onto a footpath skirting Dipton Wood until reaching the B6306.

We turned right and continued walking on this road for a short way then turned right onto a footpath which passed by Lightwater Cottages, through Dipton Wood until reaching a minor road.

We crossed straight over here along a road then turned left onto a footpath, which went through Snokoe Plantation then back onto Ladycutters lane, retracing our steps on the footpath back to the car park.

Some of us then went for refreshments in Corbridge after a muddy but enjoyable walk.
